EDMONTON, AB - This year’s Backbreaker Media Honours featured an extra surprise for Albertan wrestling fans, as Win Column Sports and Backbreaker Media announced their merger following the penultimate episode of 2018.
“I’m excited that Win Column Sports and Backbreaker Media are joining forces,” said Backbreaker Media senior engineer Mike Malowany. “Adding Spencer, Hayden, and the rest of the gang to our podcast and video content and being a part of the Win Column Sports family allows us to expand into a new fan base, both with our current array of audio content but also with some new and exciting plans. I am confident in saying in 2019 that Win Column Sports is THE source when it comes to Pro Wrestling in Alberta.”
“Backbreaker Media has long been the standard bearer for wrestling coverage in Alberta,” echoed Win Column Sports CEO, Spencer Love. “Adding Backbreaker to the Win Column Sports Network allows us to continue to develop innovative ways to cover one of the greatest independent wrestling scenes in the world.”
Backbreaker Media has earned a reputation as one of the highest-quality providers of Albertan wrestling content in the world. Founded in 2015 as the Edmonton Sports Podcast Network, Backbreaker has expanded from a single podcast into one of the most prominent video-on-demand websites in independent wrestling. Covering the majority of Alberta’s indie wrestling promotions, Backbreaker has developed into one of the leading brands on PowerslamTV, the largest provider of independent video-on-demand in the world.
In addition to V.O.D content, Backbreaker provides an in-depth look into the Albertan wrestling scene with their multitude of podcasts. Moving forward, the site will host Win Column Sports’ own Over the Top Rope and Conversations with Love, the flagship podcasts of the Win Column Sports Network.
With the merger, the Win Column Sports Network becomes the largest provider of independent wrestling content in Alberta. Founded in 2016, the WCSN aims to provide professional-level coverage to semi-professional athletes throughout the province, including the Edmonton Prospects, Edmonton Stingers, CFL and various indie wrestling promotions.
