On December 13, 2017, I officially took the reigns as the President of Win Column Sports, taking over for our founder Len Nunes. It was a bit of a daunting task; as someone who had only previously written previews of WWE pay-per-views, I had no experience writing on a variety of sports, nor was I as in-tune with the local sports community as our founder. Admittedly, I had no idea what I was doing when I took over - and trust me, there are definitely a few people out there who still feel I have no idea what I’m doing.
What I did have, however, was an absolutely incredible system of support. Whether it be friends here in Edmonton, the many people I’ve met travelling throughout the province or the countless people I talk to every day despite the thousands of miles between us, this first year has been an absolutely incredible ride. As I reflect back on year one, it seemed prudent of me to thank a few people who have been there since the very beginning.
First and foremost, thanks have to go to WCS founder Len Nunes. We literally - no, literally - wouldn’t exist without you.
Special thanks also go out to our partners at Backbreaker Media. There’s not enough I can say about the passion and dedication Mike “the Ref” Malowany has for the independent wrestling scene in Alberta. His impact on the industry in the province is truly immeasurable.
It’s also impossible to mention Backbreaker without mentioning KJ, Perish, and Andre. I’m a lucky guy to have friends like you.
Thanks to our friends at Below the Ice, who consistently provide some of the best coverage of amateur and professional hockey in the country.
Thanks to a few people who have gone above and beyond in supporting me since I took over; there are far, far too many to name but the guys from the Smark to Death podcast, RJ Kruszynski, my ALL IN crew Sam, Kait & Casey, the folks at PowerslamTV - the list goes on and on.
My fellow members of the Shield of the Win Column Sports Network - Fry and the Guy and the IIOY Wrestling Podcast - damn, it’s been fun.
Speaking of podcasts, I have to thank the people who took the time to guest on my show and not only that but became friends in the process. Guys like Colton Kelly, Leo London, Christian Strife, Shiek Shabaz and Michael Richard Blais are some of the best people in the industry, both in-and-out of the ring.
Chris Jericho is the Greatest of All Time. I’d simply like to thank him for that.
It’s a ton of fun for me to cover the semi-professional athletes and sports in the area, but it’s in large part due to the excellent programs running in Alberta. Again, there are far too many people to name but thanks to the folks with the Edmonton Prospects, Edmonton Stingers, and each and every wrestling promotion running in this province - the PWA, RCW, MPW, CWC, CWE, Lakeland Pro Wrestling, and everyone else I haven’t had a chance to see yet. You guys rock.
Lastly, to each and every one of our contributors here at Win Column Sports. I said it about Len and I’ll say it about you - I literally couldn’t do this without you.
