EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers announced their inaugural schedule this morning, signalling yet another milestone in the brand-new franchise’s development.
“The release of the inaugural season schedule is very special and exciting”, said Stingers President and COO Lee Genier in a statement accompanying the schedule’s release. “We are ready to give fans in Edmonton a truly unique sport and entertainment experience that will have fans of all ages eagerly anticipating the next game. The summer schedule allows us to position our games with exciting activities before and after games where all our fans and community members will be welcome. I am elated to see the best of professional Canadian basketball talent entertaining Canada’s most rabid sports fans here in Edmonton.”
The Stingers will play 20 games as part of the CEBL’s inaugural season, with half taking place at the Edmonton Expo Center, the team’s de facto home. Conveniently, the organization’s home games will take place strictly on Thursday-Saturday nights. It definitely adds to the organization’s appeal as a family-friendly destination as the team makes its first steps into the sports-mad city of Edmonton.
On May 10, 2019, the Stingers will make their CEBL debut as they take on the Niagara River Lions in the franchises’ inaugural home opener. Following their season kick-off, the squad doesn’t play at home again until the 24th and 31st of May.
The full CEBL schedule runs until August 15th, when the Stingers travel to BC to take on the Fraser Valley Bandits in the final game of the regular season. No announcement on potential playoff dates has been made thus far.
The league was also clear to state that specific game events would be announced upon confirmation. Genier has been staunch in his assessment that the CEBL will feature more than simply basketball, but provide a unique atmosphere for its patrons and fans.
