AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Samoa Joe – TNA Unbreakable September 11th 2005
Without a doubt the greatest match in TNA history. Three wrestlers clearly on a mission to get the world talking about them, and that’s exactly what they did. This triple threat match is being talked about to this day, a sheer testament to the individual ability of all three men involved.
What I love most about this match is that you can just watch it for the sake of it being an amazing match. You don’t need to be familiar with the company or the wrestlers. Three individuals just putting on a clinic that any pro wrestling fan will enjoy. The concept of heels and faces went completely out of the window for this one, allowing you to enjoy pro wrestling in it’s purest form.
This is a match I always show to non - wrestling fans, and every single time it changes their view on pro wrestling. It’s that good. It’s also a great way to show people how good TNA was during their prime years. All three men are still highly relevant in the industry, which just goes to show how talented all three men are.
Christopher Daniels went on to dominate the indy scene, dubbed as “the King of the Indies”. In 2017 he became the ROH World champion before dropping it to Cody. It’s a shame that Daniels never won the world championship in TNA given his long tenure there, but I’m glad he was finally able to capture one. It’s also a shame that he never went on to compete in WWE, because I thought he would of been a great addition. Speaking of which….
Samoa Joe. Also known for his long tenure with TNA, went on to debut in NXT and instantly became a household name. He is currently on WWE’s flagship show, Monday Night Raw, a place where he deserves to be. Injuries are preventing him from being in the main event picture, but I sure hope to see him there one day.
Last but not least, AJ frickin’ Styles. Do I got to say more? If anyone knew anything about TNA, they knew AJ Styles. Commonly referred to as the “Face of TNA”, Styles’ departure was a huge loss for the company. He went on to NJPW, becoming the leader of the Bullet Club and the IWGP Heavyweight Champion. He debuted in the WWE at the Royal Rumble event in 2016, skipping NXT and heading straight to the main roster. Current WWE champion, there’s not much more I can say about the guy. One of the most respected wrestlers in the industry, and quite frankly, one of the best professional wrestlers of all time. His tenure with TNA is one of the reasons why the company made a name, and whichever promotion he goes to he becomes a vital asset.
My point is, GO WATCH THE MATCH. You may know these superstars for their recent work, but rewind back to thirteen years ago, and watch the greatest triple threat match of all time.
