NXT Preview - September 12, 2020
Another few weeks, another hiatus from writing for myself. Frankly, it’s been tough keeping up with WWE lately with the main roster in the state it is. However, NXT consistently stays great. With the roster & storylines this team has, how could they? The last few weeks have begun to focus a little more on the less featured members of NXT, and I’m loving it.
But first, a recap of last week’s episode:
- Kassius Ohno def. Kona Reeves.
- The Forgotten Sons debut and defeat the Street Profits.
- Kairi Sane over Trish Adora. Afterwards, Shayna Baszler confronts Sane.
- Velveteen Dream defeats Johnny Gargano.
As always, I’m Parker Love – here with your (semi) weekly NXT Preview!
The Main Event
WWE is branding tonight’s main event as Undefeated vs Unpredictable, as Bianca Belair takes on Nikki Cross. Both are looking for momentum as the next contender to Kairi Sane’s NXT Women’s Championship, and their match tonight could be crucial. The EST of NXT has long been extremely impressive, and I do expect her to get a championship opportunity soon. Will tonight be the first step? Nikki Cross is certainly no pushover - as shown by classic matches last year with Asuka - but people may care more about what she saw from the roof during Aleister Black’s attack…

The Greatest Sports Entertainer of all time makes his return tonight for the first time since TakeOver. Tommaso Ciampa will cut a promo tonight after being the Last Man Standing over Johnny Gargano. What’s next for Tommy Sports Entertainment? Who knows, but hopefully it will give us a bit of clarity on the main event scene in NXT. Will any certain injured superstar return for a rematch? I do predict an Aleister Black vs Tommaso Ciampa championship match at WarGames, so maybe we see the start of this build? A bit of time away from the Ciampa - Gargano storyline wouldn’t be a bad thing, either.
Shayna Baszler is scheduled for a match tonight, against what can only be assumed will be a victim. Baszler announced her intentions of exercising her rematch clause for the NXT women’s championship last week - expect a dominant win here for the Queen of Spades.
Permanent NXT main-event player Raul Mendozza called out Lars Sullivan. If you’re looking for a match of the year candidate, look no further. This will be a 20-minute clinic.
Oney Lorcan is scheduled to return tonight as well, as he reunites with Danny Burch to take on some local talent as well. This does mark their first match since the classic Takeover match vs Undisputed Era. Oney rules, andI’mm happy to see him back.
As per spoilers, Ricochet, Pete Dunne, Dakota Kai, Deonna Purrazo, Aliyah and Lacey Evans are scheduled to appear in some capacity tonight as well.
The Championship Scene
Undisputed Era have finally put down Mustache Mountain, but seem to have their next challengers in the form of the War Raiders. They’ve seemed to piss off a lot of people lately - is there a date in another War Games match for them? This author certainly hopes so.
Their matriarch, Adam Cole, does have a rematch clause set for Ricochet’s North American Championship whenever he would like. Do I want to see Cole with the North American belt again? Yes - but there is no doubt in my mind Ricochet will be a great champion, and he certainly has no shortage of challengers.
Kairi Sane as champion still makes me very happy. I would like her to stay champion for a long, long time please… especially if a certain MYC finalist makes her way to NXT.
My Thoughts
- On second thought, don’t rush to send Nikki Cross to go join SAnitY on the main roster. What the hell, WWE.
- Get me some more Matt Riddle on my TV asap! Pumped to see what this guy can do in WWE. If you need any reason to cheer this guy, watch the video Evolve Wrestling released on him.
- I love the new attitude shown by Kassius Ohno last week. More of this, please. Here’s to hoping it leads to either a heel turn or a few victories.
That’s it for tonight! What do you think about tonight’s episode? Let us know by commenting, or by following us on FaceBook and Twitter! Thanks for reading, and see you next week!
