The CEBL held its inaugural draft on March 23th, 2019 to give eager fans an idea of what kind of player talent to expect in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). The Edmonton Stingers had the second overall draft pick on the evening. Let’s take the chance to look at some of the players drafted in more detail.
Regional Round
Mamadou Gueye
Mamadou Gueye is the first player to be drafted to the Edmonton Stingers. A 6’7 Forward that is a UofA alumnus and currently playing for the Sudbury Five in the NBL. Currently averaging 13.4 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and 1.3 APG. Shooting 54.9% from the field and 47.7% from behind the three, Gueye will give the Stingers a significant offensive presence.
Mathieu Kamba
Mathieu Kamba, a Calgary native, gets to play close to home as he finds himself on the Stingers lineup. A 6’5 guard who spent 4 seasons on the Central Arkansas Bears, gives the Stingers a young experienced player who will complement Gueye on the offensive end.
Jarred Ogungbemi
Ogungbemi is a 5’10 point guard coming off a strong 2017 – 2018 season with Forca Lleida in the Spanish LEB Gold League. He averaged 13.5 PPG, 4.1 RPG, and 3.1 APG while ranking 4th in the LEB Gold League in 3- point %, shooting 48.1% from beyond the arc.
Jordan Baker
A 6’7 Edmonton native who is a UofA alumnus and possesses international basketball experience formerly playing on Team Canada. Baker has a list of career achievements including being a 1st Team All – Canadian among other various achievements. Baker will fit in right at home and fleshes out the regional picks for the Stingers.
Open Round
The Edmonton Stingers filled out the remaining spots of their roster in the open round with the following players:
- Christian Musoko
- Akeem Ellis
- Corey Allmond
- Adika Peter – Mcneilly
- Greg Morrow
- Ashton Smith
- Grandy Glaze
U SPORTS Round
The Stingers also drafted two development players in the U SPORTS round including:
- Narcisse Ambanza
- Brody Clarke

When the Stingers introduced U of A coach Barnaby Craddock to be there own head coach, one presumed the team would have a Golden Bear flair to it. The U of A was tied for second out of all the schools in terms of producing athletes selected in the inaugural league draft.
