HINTON, AB: While Phoenix may have left the Border City without a belt, the same can’t be said for her return trip from Hinton.
Thursday evening saw a brand-new women’s champion crowned in Monster Pro Wrestling, as Sexy Samantha defeated Phoenix to claim the championship in front of another sellout crowd in Lloydminster. Though the loss left Phoenix on the sidelines for Friday’s event in Edmonton, Saturday saw her receive her rematch at MPW’s debut show in Hinton, Alberta.
As one could expect, Saturday’s rematch was yet another hard-fought contest between the two long-time rivals. When given the opportunity, Phoenix was at her high-flying best, though Samantha was effective in keeping her opponent grounded for the majority of the match.
Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said about her emotions. Throughout the match, Sexy Sam was at odds with the referee, complaining loudly and often with every failed pinfall attempt. As happens so often, it was a distraction for the majority of the match, and one that ultimately led to the end of Sam’s two-day title reign. In the midst of another heated argument with the official in charge, Phoenix shrewdly caught the champion with an O’Connor Roll, and a short three seconds later, was a two-time MPW Women’s Champion.
