A legend of the Japanese wrestling scene is making an appearance in this year’s edition of the Mae Young Classic.
WWE.com is reporting that Meiko Satomura will be making her inaugural appearance for World Wrestling Entertainment in this year’s MYC. While the name may not be familiar to many WWE fans, Satomura is a bonafide legend in women’s wrestling.
Satomura’s career began in 1994, when she commenced training in Japan. On April 15, 1995, she had her debut match, competing again Sonoko Kato in Gaea Japan. Within months, Satomura had established herself as one of the finest female wrestler in Japan, earning the AAAW Tag Team Championships thrice and the AAAW Singles Championship twice in her time with the promotion. Satomura also performed in WCW through the 90’s and 00’s due to their working relationship with Gaea.
However, in 2006, Gaea Japan closed it’s doors. With the promotion leaving a major hole in the women’s independent scene in Japan. In response, Satomura - along with Juneau Shinzaki - formed Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling in 2006.
