NXT Preview – September 19, 2018

Another week, another NXT Preview. The staple of everyone’s week returns for the final episode of this tapings, headlined by Ricochet vs Pete Dunne in a Champion vs Champion match.

But first, a recap of last week.

  • Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch over Jobbers
  • Tommaso Ciampa cuts a promo on how he didn’t attack Aleister Black. Ciampa has new theme music and its pretty great.
  • Shayna Baszler over Violet Payne. Bazler attacks after the match as well.
  • Lars Sullivan over Raul Mendozza
  • Nikki Cross & Bianca Belair go to a no-contest, and brawl all over the arena.

As always, I’m Parker Love – here with your  weekly NXT Preview!

Pete Dunne vs Ricochet. Need I say more?

Okay i’ll say more. Not only is this a bona-fide dream match, it’s one of the few dream matches that haven’t happened before. Note: If these two have wrestled before, can someone send me a link? The Bruiserweight and The One & Only have styles that should mesh extremely well together as well: High flier vs technical ability.

Not only will this match be absolutely fantastic, but it’s the first Champion vs Champion match in NXT. Winner takes home the North American Championship & The UK Championship.

Now… Do I need to say more? If you aren’t tuning in for this match, you’re crazy.

Other Segments

Jaxson Ryker (formerly known as Gunner in TNA) debuts tonight in singles action. The Leader of the Forgotten Sons (consisting of Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler as well), got involved in their debut match last week to give them a win over the Street Profits. A quick squash and hopefully a little more of an understanding of these characters’ is what this writer is hoping for.

WWE.com’s preview lists that the search for Aleister Black’s attacker will continue. Last week, Ciampa went out and outright denied this – but what did William Regal think when he pulled him into his office last week?

Finally, we see a continuation in the Dakota Kai vs Aliyah in a tag match. Dakota Kai went out and got Deonna Puzzaro, the Mae Young Classic standout, while Aliyah got one of the most under the radar heels on the women’s roster in Lacey Evans. It’s nice to see a few ladies in NXT get more of the spotlight, especially in the case of Aliyah. The other three ladies listed have been in NXT a short time, but it is nice to see a homegrown NXT wrestler get the opportunity to grow. No real stakes here though, just a standard match. Nice to see Puzzaro get a bit of an opportunity to shine though!

The Championship Scene

With two of the main titles on the line, expect a relatively quiet night on the championship end. With the champion vs champion match, will Adam Cole wait to invoke his rematch clause against someone with two belts rather than one?

NXT Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Era are sure to be watching this match very closely with their leader, with War Raiders ready to jump them again after! God, I can’t wait for that feud.

This will never not impress me.

Shayna Baszler lost her title and a brawl to Kairi Sane a few weeks ago, who’s really coming into her own. The Queen of Spades has promised to invoke her rematch clause though… The only question is will she wait until War Games? I’m a big fan of this rivalry, and a big fan of these women. Baszler looked vicious last week as well, in her win over Violet Payne.

NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa is still a douche. But, he does have great theme music. That doesn’t change the fact that he remains without a challenger until Aleister returns.

My Thoughts

  • The tease of Matt Riddle vs Kassius Ohno at War Games is extremely exciting, even though it likely means another loss of Ohno.
  • Big fan of 205 moving to Wednesday’s. Seems that Wrestling fans will love their Wednesday’s from now on.
  • Also a big fan of the Bianca Belair-Nikki Cross match from last week. An extended feud for these two will be money.

hat’s it for tonight! What do you think about tonight’s episode? Let us know by commenting, or by following us on Facebook and Twitter! Thanks for reading, and see you next week!
