The Royal Rumble has come and gone, with Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins winning their respective rumbles. Daniel Bryan, Ronda Rousey, Asuka and Brock Lesnar all retained their championships. The only takeaway I have from this weekend, however?

Damn, what a phenomenal weekend for NXT.

Takeover: Phoenix was a fantastic show from top to bottom, and we got to see Johnny Gargano, Aleister Black and Pete Dunne in the men’s Rumble. Io Shirai, Kairi Sane, Candace LeRae, Xia Li, Kacy Catanzaro, and Rhea Ripley all made stellar appearances in the ladies edition. NXT rocks, plain and simple.

What’s next for the black-and-yellow brand? Well, we start this week off with the hangover episode of NXT. With only two matches scheduled for tonight, we’re sure to get quite a few recaps weekends’ festivities

However, I’m Parker Love, with your weekly NXT Preview!

To begin, let’s recap Takeover, shall we?

– War Raiders defeat The Undisputed Era to become NXT Tag Team Champions

– Matt Riddle defeats Kassius Ohno via Submission

– Johnny Gargano defeats Ricochet to become NXT North American Champion

– Shayna Baszler defeats Bianca Belair to retain the NXT Women’s Champion

– Tommaso Ciampa defeats Aleister Black to retain the NXT Championship

The Main Event

After an attack from the Forgotten Sons last week after their match, The Street Profits get an opportunity for some redemption. While I’m not the biggest fan of the Profits and am cooling slightly on the Forgotten Sons, I do hope their feud continues for a while. A feud like this gives them an opportunity to continue to build and evolve their characters, and the opportunity to wrestle in front of a pre-NXT TakeOver crowd should add some motivation for the between the ropes segment for these two. However, compared to past main events that NXT has had, this is pretty neutral.

Other Segments

In the night’s other match, we’ll see Io Shirai and Kairi Sane team together to take on half of the UFC Four Horsewomen, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir. Again, I’m definitely pretty indifferent to this match. While the Horsewomen do have potential, they’ve got a long way to go. Thankfully, they get to compete against two of the best women’s wrestlers in the world tonight on a fairly significant stage. It’s nice to see Duke and Shafir continue to improve, but after the talent involved in this weekends events, it does belong a bit on the hangover show of NXT.

As well, expect plenty of highlight videos & fallout interviews from the Takeover. Fairly standard.

Two things I am curious about, though, are the promotion of the upcoming Halftime Heat and Worlds Collide Tournament. With the 6-man tag taking place at the PC this coming Sunday (screw you Maroon 5!), it’s sure to be a fantastic match. With the unlikely future of Aleister Black, however, along with the ongoing storyline between Gargano/Ciampa/Ricochet – and Velveteen Dream, to an extent- what will happen?

What will we hear about the Worlds Collide Tournament? It’ll be interesting to find out!

Odds & Ends

  • How good were the PC Videos from this weekend? It’s pretty cool to see the genuine reactions of the stars involved in the Rumble.
  • Big congrats go out to Johnny Gargano and the War Raiders as new champs! It’ll be very interesting to see who steps up to the champions next – rematches for all? Or, some new blood in the championship picture?
  • What’s next for Aleister Black is probably my biggest question from this weekend. The roster seems fairly crowded, and I definitely don’t want Black’s main roster debut to be rushed at all. However, his rumble appearance was great.
  • See you soon hopefully, Kushida.
  • What will be next between Gargano & Ciampa? The Dark DIY reunion from the end of the show was amazing. But how long will Johnny stay heel? Will we see a turn come soon? Or perhaps will we see DIY come for all the gold in NXT? This long term storyline has been fantastic, and I have no doubt it will continue to be.

That’s it for this week’s episode! What are your thoughts? Make sure to stay tuned to Win Column Sports by following us on Facebook and Twitter! Thanks for reading, and see you next week!
