The inaugural regular season for the Edmonton Collegiate Baseball Club (ECBC) has reached its conclusion. Now it is time for the ECBC inaugural playoff appearance. Sure every team in the Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) enters the 2019 CCBC Championship Tournament but that should not temper your excitement. The playoff tournament is a double elimination tournament. The number 1 seed, Thompson Rivers University, start with a bye. The rest of the league slots into the standard 2 plays 7, 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5. Once you lose 2 games you are eliminated. The tournament starts Thursday May 9th and plays out of Kamloops, BC. Okanagan College, who enter as the number two seed, are the defending Champions.

The ECBC finished the regular season with an 8W-16L record. Based on winning percentage, that gave the ECBC 5th place over the University of Calgary and Vancouver Island University who both finished with 8W-18L record. Finishing ahead of Calgary, for many Edmonton fans, is plenty enough of a reason to call the regular season a success but can the ECBC go further in the CCBC Championships than our rivals down south?

ECBC’s game kicks off the tournament Thursday morning at 10AM against the Prairie Baseball Academy (PBA). Half of Edmonton’s wins this past season came against the PBA. ECBC won 1 of 2 games at their home field of Lloyd Nolan Yard and took 3 of 4 at home in the friendly confines of RE/MAX Field. Details on those games can be found HERE. The winner between ECBC and PBA move on to face the number one seeded Thompson Rivers University (TRU). Fun fact, the TRU were the team the ECBC collected their first home win against! Details of that win can be found HERE.
