“Courage: the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain etc; without fear; bravery. Cancer sucks, I’ve seen kids with more courage than I could ever muster. May 3rd to 5th we are going to Change The Shape Of Energy and punch cancer in the mouth. I can’t cure cancer, 30 hours on a bike for these kids and their families is a small sacrifice to make. Please join us and help make a difference.”
These are the words of Daniel O’Neill on Dan’s 24 Hour Bike Ride at Exist Fitness Facebook page.
When Dan and I spoke last month putting together our original awareness piece about the bike ride raising funds for the Kids With Cancer Society, I pointed out that “our story” part of the charity Facebook page needed to be updated. Here is his update:
5TH ANNIVERSARY EDITIONFrom Friday May 3 at 5 p.m. until Sunday May 5 at 4 p.m. we will be holding the 5th edition of Dan’s 24 Hour Ride. We are calling it the Bad Math Edition because I have up the anti and will be riding for 30 hours this year.Friday night we have a family ride and movie night. All weekend the Silent Auction will be on. We will have DJ’s and other fun events. Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. we will again be having a BBQ hosted by Red Robin. All proceeds will again be going to the Kids With Cancer Society.Anyone can come and ride. Ride for 10 minutes or for as long as you want. It costs $50 to ride and there are some amazing items up for grabs in a silent auction. We have Recumbent Bikes this year for those who can’t ride a spin bike.Want to Volunteer? Contact Daniel at 780-920-0514 or at email@example.comThe Kids With Cancer Society provides over 50 programs to families in the Edmonton area and Northern Alberta who have a child diagnosed with cancer. Together we will Change The Shape Of Energy and make a dent in cancer. Thanks for four amazing years of support, let’s make this the biggest most financially successful ride yet.
You can track the progress of funds being raised by this initiative on Daniel’s 2019 Tour of Hope Page for the Kids With Cancer Society Page. As of this publishing date over $1,500 has been raised with the goal being $5,000. You can support the charity by visiting his Tour of Hope Page or by visiting Exist Fitness.
Time is in one-hour increments at a $50 donation to ride. You are not limited to one hour but be sure to message Daniel if your plan is to ride longer so the day can pedal along smoothly for all who wish to participate. This year there is even swag to purchase to help raise funds for the Kids With Cancer Society.
Rather than just writing about the event, I am signed up to ride on Saturday, May 4th at 9 AM, and will be asking my co-workers and family to sponsor me $5 to do at least the one hour ride along with Dan during his 30-hour weekend. I encourage any and all of you who are able to help out by doing the same and joining the fight against cancer. Sign up online through Exist Fitness’ Mind Body registration to ride with Dan HERE.
